Texas (Indian) Paintbrush
(Castilleja indivisa)

The Texas Paintbrush is a spring bloomer that I think rivals the bluebonnet for beauty during the spring bloom in Texas. The paintbrush is often a companion of the bluebonnet, and mixed fields of red and blue are really awesome. The blooming season for paintbrush is similar to the bluebonnet, March-June, although some straggle into the summer sporadically. This photo was taken in the Texas hill country near Llano in April 2001.

Photo Details: Nikon N90s, Nikon 85 2.8 Tilt Shift, Fuji Velvia, f8@125, Manfrotto CF4221 w/ Kirk BH-1 and Adorama focusing rail.
