There are several species of prickly pear in Big Bend. I have photos of a few. This is the Purple Prickly Pear, which I think has the prettiest blossom. It's deep red center is set off by the bright red edges. The pads on this prickly pear range from green to deep purplish pink. This photo was taken in April 2001.
