Ocotillo
(Foquieria slendeus)

Big Bend is full of Octotillo. The Spring 2001 bloom was a awesome. It seemed like every Ocotillo was in bloom thoughout the park in April when I was there. And the blooms were plentiful. Ocotillo is not a cactus, it is a tree. It gets leaves, usually after a rain. There were a few with leaves in the park this time when I was there, but they all had blossoms! Photo taken in April 2001.
