This
shot was taken while hiking across the desert in Big Bend National
Park in April, 2005. The rat snake was stretched across the trail sunning.
You can see by his pattern that he blended extremely well with
the desert gravel and as I stepped over him he moved. As you can imagine
it startled the heck out of me and I barely regained my composure enough
to snap this photo! This is a great example natural camoflage.
